Oilers triumph in Game 5, force Stanley Cup Final Game 6

Edmonton Oilers defeat Florida Panthers 5-1 to force series to Game 6

Panthers still lead series 3-2, but Oilers keep hopes alive with dominant performance

The Edmonton Oilers have forced a Game 6 in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final with a resounding 5-1 victory over the Florida Panthers in Game 5. The Panthers still hold a 3-2 series lead, but the Oilers' dominant performance in Game 5 has given them a glimmer of hope.

The Oilers were led by Connor McDavid, who scored two goals and added an assist. Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman also scored for the Oilers, while Evan Bouchard added an empty-net goal. Sergei Bobrovsky made 32 saves for the Panthers, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Oilers' offensive onslaught.

The Oilers came out flying in the first period and took a 2-0 lead on goals by McDavid and Draisaitl. The Panthers answered back with a goal by Aleksander Barkov late in the period, but the Oilers regained their two-goal lead early in the second period on a goal by Hyman.

The Oilers continued to pour it on in the third period, adding two more goals to put the game out of reach. McDavid scored his second goal of the game on a power play, and Bouchard sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.

The Oilers will now have a chance to tie the series in Game 6, which will be played on Sunday night in Edmonton. The Panthers will be looking to close out the series and win their first Stanley Cup since 1996.
